As of June 30th you will no longer be able to access your Hotmail Inbox via Outlook Express. Microsoft has discontinued the DAV protocol that enabled this and has replaced it with a more efficient protocol called Delta Synch. Delta Synch is not supported by Outlook Express. It is supported by Windows Live Mail.
What is a Protocol? A set of rules to regulate data transmission between computers.
Protocols we are familiar with:
POP 3: Post Office Protocol 3. A protocol that provides a simple, standardized way for users to access mailboxes and download messages to their computers
Imap: Internet Message Access Protocol. The successor of the POP protocol and is used to retrieve email messages from a central email server. Supports more advanced features such as folders, encryption, etc.
DAV: Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol. Used by hotmail clients to receive emails in Outlook Express.
Delta Synch: Superior for large e-mail inboxes, but not supported by Outlook Express.
Windows Live Mail:
Microsoft is recommending you now use Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook Express.
The classic version of Windows Live Mail is very similar to MSN Hotmail, but faster, easier to use, and has improved safety information.
The full version offers Outlook-like features, such as drag-and-drop, right-click, and message previews. Choose your favorite in Options.
If you liked MSN Hotmail, you may prefer the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail. Make sure you’re using it by going to Options (or Options --> More options from the full version). Look at the first option on the page to see if you’re currently using the full or classic version.
Windows Live Mail now gives you 5GB of online storage.
Free Hotmail accounts expire if you haven’t logged into Hotmail for a certain number of days, which is a standard practice for web-based mail accounts because many users use an account for a little while, and then never use it again. MSN Hotmail
accounts expire after 60 days, and Windows Live Hotmail accounts expire after 120 days.
Some Attributes of Windows Live Mail:
Photos:
Send high-resolution photos without clogging their inboxes with gigantic attachments. Your contact will see a thumbnail image embedded in your message. When they click on it, they'll see the full-sized picture, at a private Web location. Plus, you can do basic photo editing, add borders, and control just how the thumbnail images are displayed in your e-mail.
Email accounts:
Get multiple e-mail accounts in one place—not only Hotmail, but Gmail, Yahoo!*, and many more. Plus, you can start a Windows Live Messenger conversation right from your inbox, or jump right into the latest updates from your friends' Windows Live Spaces blogs.
Security:
Use Windows Live Mail to help maximize privacy, safety, and security across your e-mail accounts. Spam filters scan for junk e-mail, red and yellow warning bars tell you when a message seems to be suspicious, and the "Delete and block" button lets you tell scammers to buzz off.
Of course Microsoft encourages you to use Windows Live Mail.

If you receive a file that was created in Word 2007 and you have Word 2003 or Word 2000 you might not be able to open it!
Microsoft has added a new open file format XML for Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. It reduces file size, improves security and reliability, and enhances integration with other applications that are not of the Microsoft system.
If you have Office XP, Office 2003, Office 2000:
Microsoft has developed a Compatibility Pack for the Office Word, Office Excel, and Office PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
Installing the Compatibility Pack
By installing the Compatibility Pack along side of Microsoft Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, save, and create files using the Open XML Formats new to the 2007 Microsoft Office system.
This is the link for the Compatibility Pack

If you have Microsoft Office 2007, and you want to share your documents with your colleagues who are still using earlier versions of Office, so that they can open, read, and even make changes to the documents that you create in either Excel, Word or Power Point 2007, you can make your documents fully available for editing by turning on Compatibility Mode.
Turn on Compatibility Mode:
When you create a new document that will be used in a previous version, you can turn on Compatibility Mode by saving the file in Word 97-2003 format.
Compatibility Mode ensures that no new or enhanced features in Office Word 2007 are available while you are working in a document, so that people who are using previous versions of Word will have full editing capabilities
How:
Open a new document.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save As.
Select Word 97-2003 Document in the Save as type list.
In the File name box, type a name for the document.
Click Save.
